Without research there can be no cure!

Together with our global partners, we are driving research toward a cure—therapies that can stop, slow or even reverse the progression of this awful disease. It is a matter of when, not if, this will become a reality. But without research there can be no cure. Did you know that less than half of all medical research in New Zealand is government funded? Or that <10% of research grant applications are ultimately funded? Philanthropy is essential to make our dream of a world without Parkinson’s come true.

With your help, we aim to flip the paradigm of research funding to provide consistency of funding, continuity on projects, and synergies through collaboration. We will accelerate the research to drive better outcomes, faster, creating a new future for all those with Parkinson’s and all those who might one day go on to receive a diagnosis.

There are many ways you can support us.

Donations

Donations come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Your donation could cover the cost of an antibody used in research, or a drug screening run to test novel compounds/drugs and determine which of them warrant further testing. At the other end of the scale, major donations can help us cover the salaries of our dedicated team of Parkinson’s researchers.

You can choose whether to make your donation a one-off donation, or a regular one of any frequency—all donations are highly welcome.

Donations can be made using the webform on our Donate page (please note there is a 2.5% credit card fee) or directly into the Trust’s account:

Account name: Neuro Research Charitable Trust
Account number: 02-0316-0450809-000

If making a direct payment, please use the Contact Us button below to let us know so that we can thank you, receipt appropriately, and keep you informed of the impact of your donation.

All donations over $5 are tax deductible, and we also have an international fund that can offer tax deductibility advantages to potential donors based outside of New Zealand. We will provide donation receipt(s) at the appropriate time. Thank you for your support!

Bequests and wills

We realise that the cost of living is high, and that many people are finding that their incomes can barely cover their expenses, let alone donations. For a lot of people who want to help, their wealth is tied up in assets. This is why more and more are choosing to leave a gift if their Will, asking their solicitor or legal advisor to include the charities they feel passionate about among the beneficiaries of their Will. What a legacy!

There are different types of gift that can be made through Wills, and it is best to talk to family members and a solicitor or legal advisor to determine the best option for you. At Cure Parkinson’s NZ, we are always grateful for any type of support, including legacy gifts, gifts in memoriam, pledges and bequests. We have established endowment funds with some of the seventeen Community Foundations around the country if long-term sustainable support for Parkinson’s research is something you care about. Or if you’re keen on a more immediate impact, we can align your legacy gift to a specific purpose. The choice is yours!

Corporate giving

There are a number of ways that companies can support Cure Parkinson’s NZ in our mission, ranging from sponsorship of event expenses to payroll giving programmes to inviting their customers to donate at the time of purchase. Some companies like to organize events, like a charity golf day, nominating us as the beneficiary, while others can help us by amplifying our messages through their social networks. If your company needs a big cause, with an ambitious dream to align to, look no further than Cure Parkinson’s NZ.

With imagination the only limiting factor in the various ways we can collaborate and cooperate to generate impact, we would love to discuss how we can work together for mutual benefit and worldwide impact. Please get in touch via our Contact page!

Athletic endeavours

Our small team loves to take on big challenges, twisting a few arms to raise some dollars along the way. However, the real power in fundraising through such challenges comes from the power of networks. We are therefore always looking for new people to enter events and take on challenges to raise money for Cure Parkinson’s NZ.

We have been lucky enough to have people swim, bike, run and kayak for us all across the country (and in some cases, literally across the country), raising valuable funds for Parkinson’s research. If you, or someone you know, is a keen athlete keen to take on a new challenge, why not do it for a charity like ours?

Did you know that Cure Parkinson’s NZ is among the registered charities at the 2024 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Marathon (taking place on Nov 3)? If someone you know is considering running this, why not ask them to join our team?

We can help you set up a page for any other event, just get in touch and let us know what challenge you are considering taking on.

Spreading the word

Your valued support through the various options set out above is vital to our success, but we also need your help to build more relationships and connect people to our outcomes. We encourage you to please re-share our mission and regular updates on our social media channels with colleagues, friends and family to become a part of our growing community. They can connect through any of our channels below.
