Cup for a Cure Launch Event at the Allpress Gallery

December 2024

Coffee drinkers have a lower risk of developing Parkinson’s disease. While the exact reasons remain unclear, it seems that coffee’s protective effects come from a unique combination of compounds, not just caffeine. Drinking two to four cups per day may even alleviate some Parkinson’s symptoms. We are therefore thrilled to be partnered with Allpress Espresso to run our Cup for a Cure appeal over the summer.

We recently launched the campaign with a special event at the Allpress Espresso gallery space in Freeman’s Bay, Auckland. We were incredibly fortunate to have the acclaimed NZ film and TV director Toa Fraser join us at this event on December 6, 2024, where he shared his experiences of living with Parkinson’s and undergoing deep brain stimulation. You can see some images from the event using the scroller below.

We invite you to participate: you can donate to the Cup for a Cure appeal and in return receive vouchers for a free coffee and coffee products. The Cup for a Cure collaboration with Allpress Espresso runs through to Feb 18, with vouchers redeemable through to March 1. The funds raised will go toward crucial research into Parkinson’s disease, the world’s fastest growing neurological condition, affecting over 13,000 Kiwis. Experts predict that 1 in 37 people alive today may develop Parkinson’s, potentially affecting over 138,000 New Zealanders.
